I believe in the power of design and education to enlighten, empower and transform. Fashion education should balance creativity and practicality, practiced with integrity.

I teach because I want to help bright, motivated, passionate and curious students develop into creative leaders who are happy and successful in their careers.

I love fashion, design and visual communication and strive to bring the interesting aspects of it to students. I do this by seeking out the most current information and examples, curating interesting course activities, organizing information and finding analogies and developing exercises that help students understand information. I get to keep learning. I especially enjoy conceiving and plan course activities and I enjoy interacting with students—their excitement and perspectives inspires me and I am energized by their fresh ideas.

I believe that the most credible fashion educators are practitioners, so in that spirit, I strive to actively make and do, and bring my learning back to the classroom. I am also continually learning from my students. Their diverse viewpoints lend a fresh twist to my own ideas. I try to inspire students to be curious explorers, to discover knowledge and ways of working that will help them all their lives.

Overall, I aim to help students to:

  • Dream big.

  • Stretch: Practice and perfect skills and revisit fundamentals.

  • Get real: Create concepts and designs that are irresistible to a target customer group.

  • Execute: Focus, know when to say when, balance best quality with deadlines and budget and be able to see when the work is good.

  • Communicate and reflect.

I feel that education, curiosity and perseverance are keys to success in life. Once you know how to learn and how to find and solve problems, you can learn almost anything. I encourage students to explore widely and deeply absorb influences from an extensive variety of sources in order to have something to say. Exposure and openness to new ideas is key to move cultures forward.

In my courses, I strive to stimulate marketable creativity and professionalism in students, challenge them to be thinkers, problem solvers and communicators, and help them to do their best work and make their ideas reality
